Implementing meditation in our daily routine can be life changing, because nothing is more important than our mind’s health. No matter how old you are, no matter what’s going on in your life, or how little time you may have to devote to it, meditation practice can contribute in a very positive way to your overall happiness.
If you have 15 minutes to spare and want to start your day in a positive way, try to meditate first thing in the morning to clear your thoughts and energise your soul. Sit on somewhere comfortable, keeping your back relatively straight, and cross your legs, resting your hands on your knees, if possible. Don’t worry too much about posture, the most important thing is to be comfortable. Then, observe wandering thoughts, and let them go, don’t focus on them as they drift through the mind. Hold onto the state of deep concentration and calmness for as long as you can, trying always to go deeper into the inner silence. When you notice thoughts, gently let them go by returning your focus to the breath. Do not get involved with any thoughts you may have or judge them, simply be aware of each mental note as it arises, and let it go. If meditating in the morning isn’t possible, you can practice it anytime, just make sure that meditation time is your top priority over other tasks.
As you incorporate meditation in your routine, you may realise that you want to meditate for different goals at different times: some days you will find emotional balance practicing meditation when you have a hard day to face, and you will have days where you will benefit from quieting your mind at the end of your day; relax, slow down and unplug yourself from the outside world.
