Improving The Quality of Your Thoughts For a Better Life
Our thoughts can be our best friends and our worst enemies. It’s really true that we create the world in which we live. In order to live a happy and peaceful life, we need to learn how to deal with negative thoughts.
I believe that every single one of us, at some point in our lives, had to deal with confusing and unwanted thoughts. If we are not aware of how negative our thoughts can be, we can get used to have a pessimist mind frame and have our well-being compromised. You may think that there is no harm on being a person who thinks about the negative aspects of a situation more than the positive, but it’s important to take responsibility for your own feelings and reactions in order to live a more fulfilling life.
There is a phrase that says: Pessimism leads to weakness and optimism leads to power, and I truly stand by these words. Becoming more optimistic is really empowering, and it can help us to overcome obstacles and be motivated. We can all choose to see more of the sunny things in life by being aware of our thoughts, and being willing to release negative ones, by simply deciding not to focus on them.
If you notice you are adopting a negative perspective in a situation, start by being mindful and accepting your thoughts. Detach yourself from judgment and just observe your thoughts. Doing this, doesn't mean that you have to like them, or even agree with your thoughts, you are learning to train yourself to be the observer of your mind, by allowing this negative thoughts to exist, and making no effort to try to control them. Avoid judging yourself or your thoughts and remember that can’t necessarily always control what thoughts or feelings show up, but you are in total control of your reactions to those thoughts.
When you put yourself in a position of observation, you start to be aware of your body, your emotions, and what is happening around you. You will realise that a thought is just a thought, and it’s not reality. You acknowledge your thoughts and any negative emotions that you may feel, but you understand that your reality is what’s in front of you, so you can let negative thoughts slip from your mind.
It’s important to be mindful of your negative emotions because ignoring or repressing them can make them more powerful and more fear-inducing. When I feel the need to acknowledge my negative thoughts, I practice mindfulness by scheduling a time to worry. During this time, I allow my thoughts to surface, and I address all the bad thoughts that I have by putting them on paper. Then, I take the time to acknowledge them before I throw the paper away. When I get rid of the paper, I mentally discard the negative thoughts too. (Do not schedule worry time in the morning or close to your bedtime, because you don’t want to start or end your day on a bad note).
Try to establish a routine where you dedicate at least 15 minutes a day to clear your thoughts. Meditation can increase your awareness and help you to block bad thoughts in the long term. Just close your eyes and focus on the blackness. Even if where you are is not silent or calm, you can use the sounds around you to help you to focus on your surroundings, and divert your thoughts to the present moment. Allow yourself to be present, and engage your senses to your surroundings. Relax, eventually you will reach a higher level of awareness and inner calm. With time, try to practice staying in this state for longer and longer periods of time in order to clear your mind.
Pay attention to your routine in order to incorporate ways to increase your sense of happiness, and create a positive environment for yourself. Make a point of starting your day on a positive mindset, and if possible, allow a full hour of peaceful relaxation before you go to bed in order to end your day in the best way possible.
Don’t put pressure on yourself and surround yourself with positive friends. By cutting the negative influences from your life, and surrounding yourself with positivity, you will find it easier to nurture a positive frame of mind. Learn to communicate your concerns and feelings. I believe that one of the best ways to get a thought out of your head is sharing it with someone else.
Remember that life can be exactly how you want it to be when you are aware that you create your reality. Positivity and spirituality is the key to access your mind’s power. If you change the way you think and feel on a daily basis, you will also change your future reality.
