When we wake up to our true nature, our physical body and mind become irrelevant. There are many definitions to Spiritual Awakening, but as I see it, it could be any event that motivated us to begin a spiritual search.
There are two main aspects in our life: one that relates to the physical body, called materialism; and the other that relates to the inner self (the soul): our spirituality.
When we focus on Spirituality, all the activities in our life are decided keeping in mind the awakening of the soul, and not on the inclination towards acquiring material possessions.
I believe you can lead a spiritual life while living in a materialistic society, being aware of our spirituality does not mean that we need to abandon all enjoyment of material things.
Understanding that there is a major purpose to our life is the key to see the spiritual dimension that has the potential to enable us to encounter something more than what is most obvious to us, even when times in life are difficult. It is no secret that things do not bring happiness. Our spirituality can fill our life with positive feelings and an optimistic outlook on life.
We must remember that our thoughts, feelings and actions are guided by our values. If our values are healthy, positive values, we will think and act in positive, healthy ways and that in turn will lead to positive, healthy lives.
