Forgiveness is one of the most vital spiritual tools you will ever use. Spirituality and forgiveness have been shown to be associated with psychological well-being, so one of the most beneficial things you can do for your emotional well-being is to forgive. Because holding on to resentment towards someone depletes your energy, delays spiritual progression and growth, and makes your life more stressful.

Often times after we have been emotionally, physically or spiritually hurt, the pain quickly turns to anger and resentment. Resentment is a negative energy that will attract us to negative situations, even in our casual relationships.

Self forgiveness is also very important. Once we use self forgiveness, our inner door to love opens. We are now able to feel the Universal love and well being that has been waiting beyond the door that we had kept closed within ourselves for so long. We tend to form ideas about ourselves from the way that other people respond to us. This is true whether their response actually had anything to do with us or not. We can’t give what we don’t have. If we withhold love from others, it is because we are withholding it from ourselves. If we are withholding it from ourselves, it is because we haven’t fully forgiven ourselves yet. This step is absolutely essential before we can truly forgive and love anyone else.

Forgiving certainly is work, it is an inner growth journey that takes effort to achieve. But you are not facing it alone, keep in mind: Nobody is perfect.

It is also important to consider that whatever happened in our lives may be something we chose, on a karmic, spiritual level, to experience. Taking responsibility for our part of what happened to us will make us stronger and possibly even protect us from further harm.

Forgiveness does not mean we agree with what happened, or that it doesn't matter to us. It doesn't mean we condone it or that it would be fine with us if it would happen again. Forgiveness means we are no longer tormented by the event.

Forgiveness is a spiritual choice, not an emotional feeling; When we choose to forgive, let it go, and move on, our spiritual energy will change to a positive energy and lead us to a happier life.
